چکیده

A new variation of the coloring problem, μ-coloring, is defined in this paper. Given a graph G and a function μ, a μ-coloring is a coloring where each vertex v of G must receive a color at most μ(v). It is proved that μ-coloring lies between coloring and list-coloring, in the sense of generalization of problems and computational complexity. The notion of perfection is extended for μ-coloring, leading us to a new characterization of cographs. Finally, a polynomial time algorithm to solve μ-coloring for cographs is shown.

Exploring the complexity boundary between coloring and list-coloring

Many classes of graphs where the vertex coloring problem is polynomially solvable are known, the most prominent being the class of perfect graphs. However, the list-coloring problem is NP-complete for many subclasses of perfect graphs. In this work we explore the complexity boundary between vertex coloring and list-coloring on such subclasses of perfect graphs, where the former admits polynomia...

On coloring problems with local constraints

We show complexity results for some generalizations of the graph coloring problem on two classes of perfect graphs, namely clique trees and unit interval graphs. We deal with the μ-coloring problem (upper bounds for the color on each vertex), the precoloring extension problem (a subset of vertices colored beforehand), and a problem generalizing both of them, the (γ, μ)-coloring problem (lower a...

A practical algorithm for [r, s, t]-coloring of graph

Coloring graphs is one of important and frequently used topics in diverse sciences. In the majority of the articles, it is intended to find a proper bound for vertex coloring, edge coloring or total coloring in the graph. Although it is important to find a proper algorithm for graph coloring, it is hard and time-consuming too. In this paper, a new algorithm for vertex coloring, edge coloring an...

k-forested choosability of graphs with bounded maximum average degree

A proper vertex coloring of a simple graph is $k$-forested if the graph induced by the vertices of any two color classes is a forest with maximum degree less than $k$. A graph is $k$-forested $q$-choosable if for a given list of $q$ colors associated with each vertex $v$, there exists a $k$-forested coloring of $G$ such that each vertex receives a color from its own list. In this paper, we prov...

Reduction of 4-methylimidazole in caramel coloring by ɣ-irradiation

4-Methylimidazole (4-MEI) is a simple nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, and recently classified as group 2B by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Caramel coloring is widely applied food coloring in many food products including coffee, carbonated beverages, beer and wine. In present study, ɣ-irradiation was applied to Caramel Color III to reduce the level of 4-MEI witho...
